Pet Qwerks company FAQ, also links to press about their talking, motion activated "Babble Ball." Nearly indestructable through rough play.
Talk To Me company's product list of programmable talking treat balls, in tiny to huge sizes. You can record any sound or song. Birds go nuts wrestling a ball that uses their own voice. Not super sturdy.
JungleTalk's button activated electronic parrot toys, parrot cellphone, music box. Music box is rugged, cellphone will be crunched.
Ergo System's automated bird feeders. Can deliver small piles of pellets up to 8 times a day at times you set. Neat way to break up monotony or control a food-hog's eating without starving them. Could also feed a fish tank or other small pet for your bird to watch.
Through technology we can create very interesting interactions between people and animals. However, the lack of standards means individuals who work really hard, but are isolated in their problem solving, come up with schemes that they cannot complete. For example, the Crow Vending Machine, as featured in a TED talk, is an interesting idea, but I spoke with the researchers who supplied the crows, and the machine never worked in practice. The problem with the crow vending machine is not the idea, but the lack of man-power and time. Standards allow for multiple researcher's work to mesh and produce larger results than any one person can create alone. You can download the Ver. 1.0 draft of the standards embedded below, here.
